DTP Printing: The Game-Changer in Custom Apparel

DTP Printing: The Game-Changer in Custom Apparel

If you're into custom printing, you've probably heard of screen printing, heat transfer vinyl, or even sublimation. But have you met the new kid on the block? Say hello to DTP printing—aka Direct-to-Paper printing. This bad boy is shaking things up, making it easier than ever to print high-quality eco friendly designs on almost any fabric. Let's break it down!

What is DTP Printing?

DTP printing is exactly what it sounds like—you print your design on a special paper, apply a powder adhesive, and then heat press it onto a garment. DTP excels on cotton, polyester and blended fabrics. "Direct to Paper" or DTP is the latest technology when it comes to heat applied transfers and can be used to personalise almost any item with either a vibrant, photorealistic image, or just a simple company logo. All you need is a heat press, and you can begin embellishing.

Eco Benefits of DTP

DTP has tremendous added benefits, with paper as the waste product rather than film it reduces the cost to produce dramatically, making it much cheaper for you, all whilst also being of the highest quality and far more eco-friendly than any other type of transfer on the market. Unlike DTF, which uses a plastic film, DTP uses a special paper which can be recycled once used.

If you have a heat press, you can begin right away.

So why not get in touch with us and see how we can help you

DTP transfers will become the most successful type of transfer on the market, they are more affordable, of very high quality and are far more eco-friendly than DTG or DTF.

Why is DTP Printing So Popular?

  1. Super Versatile – Prints on pretty much any fabric.
  2. Durable & Stretchy – Unlike vinyl, which can crack or peel, DTF prints are flexible and long-lasting.
  3. Bright & Bold Colors – The colors pop like crazy, and the prints feel soft, not stiff.
  4. No Weeding! – If you’ve ever dealt with heat transfer vinyl, you know the struggle of picking out tiny bits of vinyl. With DTF, there’s none of that nonsense.
  5. Cost-Effective for Small Runs – Perfect for custom orders without the hassle of setting up screens or cutting vinyl.

How Does DTP Printing Work?

Here’s a quick breakdown:

  1. Print Your Design – Using a DTP printer, print your design onto a special heat-resistant paper.
  2. Apply Adhesive Powder – Sprinkle the magic powder over the print while it’s still wet, then shake off the excess.
  3. Cure the Print – Use a heat press or curing oven to melt the adhesive powder onto the design.
  4. Press It On – Place the film onto your garment and press it with a heat press at around 320°F for about 15 seconds.
  5. Peel & Admire – Let it cool, then peel off the film to reveal your masterpiece!
